Sustainability in the real-estate industry: Which strategies really work?

Dear customers of EXPO REAL,

Global warming and need for ecologically sustainable lifestyles is a major challenge facing society. Sustainable development in the real-estate industry will also be one of the key themes at this year's EXPO REAL and the focus of several events in the conference programme. One of the focal points of the panel discussions will be the extent to which sustainability and profitability are compatible with one another.

Incidentally, you can make a small contribution to environmental protection by using our new shuttle service between several hotels in downtown Munich and the trade-fair centre during EXPO REAL.

Greetings from Munich!
Yours sincerely,

Claudia Boymanns
EXPO REAL Exhibition Director

Established.
The EXPO REAL FORUM.

Since the premiere of EXPO REAL ten years ago, the EXPO REAL FORUM has been one of the most important information exchanges in the commercial real-estate sector. As such, it gives participants a comprehensive look at the latest trends and topics of interest to the real-estate community. One of the focal points of this year's forum is the topic of sustainable development. What does sustainability mean for urban planning, project developers and investors? What costs should they anticipate, and how profitable is it to invest in sustainable real estate? What strategies and solution approaches can the real-estate industry use to counter the threat of climatic disaster? The expert discussions at the EXPO REAL FORUM on October 8th will provide answers to these and many other questions.

On the following two days, the EXPO REAL FORUM will revolve around investment strategies and real estate as an asset class. The final FORUM event is the "10 Years of EXPO REAL" anniversary celebration on Wednesday.

It's about time.
Sustainable development in the real-estate industry.

Climatic change is an established fact, which is why the real-estate industry must examine its strategies and solution approaches. Reducing CO2 emissions and implementing measures that protect the environment are increasingly considered relevant requirements to be met by buildings and their quality. One of the factors behind sustainability is property location – something that applies to rapidly growing mega-cities and metropolitan areas in developed industrialized nations in particular.

Green future.
Dictates of economic reason.

The fact that investments should generate the greatest possible yields and meet ecological, social and ethical requirements at the same time is a trend that is gradually picking up speed. Compared to other types of investments, socially responsible investments (SRI) are experiencing above-average growth both in the United States and Europe.
In light of growing energy costs and increasingly strict environmental requirements, for purely economic reasons, soon investors will have no choice but to incorporate more sustainability into their real-estate assets. The growing number of real-estate companies and institutional investors in the United States that are dedicated to this development proves that it is already possible to earn more money with "green buildings".
