EXPO REAL 2011   Consistent success

37,000 participants, 1,610 companies from 34 countries: EXPO REAL 2011 weathers the turbulences on the financial markets and once again validates its exceptional value as an industry meeting place.

The positive atmosphere is also reflected among the participants: 97 percent of visitors rate EXPO REAL 2011 excellent to good. The exibitors particularly praised the high number of quality contacts.

RE-set

Everything is pointing towards the year 2010 being a year of opportunities for the industry. EXPO REAL has already seen an upward trend in the number of exhibitor registrations. Active market participants are focussing on what lies ahead and are looking out for new business models, market segments and sustainable trends for the future.

  Steady at maintaining its position

EXPO REAL continues to gain in reputation notwithstanding that real estate transactions almost come to a complete standstill worldwide and that real estate fairs sustain slumps of 30%, sometimes even as much as 50%. The moderate 15% decline in exhibitor numbers and visitors provides for an atmosphere that is relaxed and focussed on work results. 1,600 exhibitors meet 21,000 visitors from 73 countries. Events at the trade fair are characterised by intensive discussions concerning future developments in the market.

Networking platform

The financial crisis comes to a head with the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers and starts to have an effect on the real estate industry. The need for communication within the real estate industry has never been greater than in this situation: 24,000 visitors, 17,000 representatives from the exhibitor businesses, 1,100 journalists and 400 conference programme speakers meet in EXPO REAL's seven exhibition halls. Once again EXPO REAL's consistent focus on results and projects is proven:  EXPO REAL is the networking platform for the European real estate industry.

  It's real business

The sub-prime crisis hits the USA when the real estate bubble bursts, which initially has hardly any impact on the European real estate industry. This is the subject matter of many discussion panels as part of EXPO REAL's conference programme. EXPO REAL continues to grow and now has 1,800 exhibitors and 23,000 visitors.

The second topic to be discussed in depth is the sustainability of the real estate industry.

All markets at the same place at the same time

The European Union now has 25 member states. Middle and Eastern European countries, in particular, are represented in increasing numbers at EXPO REAL which now welcomes participants from 65 countries and is continuing to grow. The conference programme is restructured: podium discussions on current topics now take place at the EXPO REAL FORUM, the diversity of use-related real estate is presented at the SPECIAL REAL ESTATE FORUM, the INVESTMENT LOCATIONS FORUM introduces profitable locations and the PLANNING & PARTNERSHIPS FORUM is all about town planning, architecture and facility management. The MEDIA LOUNGE is a new area for visionary insights into the real estate market, and also used as a meeting place for the press and PR representatives.

  Reflecting the zeitgeist

EXPO REAL's conference programme is so wide-ranging that discussions now take place in a total of five forums. On commencement of the trade fair EXPO REAL switches to online tickets as a result of the tremendous increase in participant numbers. This enables visitors and exhibitors to get into the fair without having to wait at the cash desks. The online registration facility has been used by almost all participants at EXPO REAL since then. EXPO REAL now has more than 1,300 exhibitors and more than 17,800 visitors throughout Europe and is gaining in importance (cf. MIPIM 2010: 17,306 participants).

The move

The new century has seen EXPO REAL grow sixfold so that it has to move from the M,O,C, to the significantly larger exhibition site at the Neue Messe München. The change in location also sees a change in project management, which from now onwards is headed up by Claudia Boymanns. There are now 25,000 square metres of space for 900 exhibitors – of which 16% are from abroad – to present their commercial real estate products, thereby attracting 13,000 visitors from 37 countries to Munich. The foundation stone for EXPO REAL's internationality has been laid.

  The beginning

On 8 October 1998 Messe München launched the first EXPO REAL at the M,O,C. Right from the very beginning EXPO REAL claimed to be “the trade fair for users”, and still does this justice today.

Parallel to the trade fair a top-class conference programme is on offer at the EXPO REAL FORUM. The first event already has 147 exhibitors and 2,500 visitors.
