In October 2009 one of the largest territorial entities in North-Rhine Westphalia with a total population of approx. 567,000 people and an area of 708 km² will come into existence. Jointly with the districts Düren, Euskirchen and Heinsberg as well as the European neighbours (German-speaking community Belgium and Parkstad Limburg) it forms a trinational urban landscape with pulsating centres and an extensive cultural offer.
